Habitable Zone

We come from different cultural backgrounds, yet we live and create in New York—a city where diversity and division coexist. Across the world, ongoing wars, political tensions, and ideology differences generate invisible boundaries between people, sometimes even affecting close relationships. In this context, we are drawn to the fragile moments when people attempt to mend ruptures through dialogue, gestures of care, or physical contact.

Living and working across different cultural spheres, we have continually encountered subtle tensions. Differences in race, ideology, historical perspective, and daily customs may appear minor, yet they can create deep feelings of alienation. Listening to those living under war and oppression has revealed the pain of navigating multiple fractured realities. In such encounters, empathy beyond words and a solidarity of silence emerged, making us aware of the “thorns” of culture and history we carry.

Through these experiences, we realized that society and history do not contain a single truth. Human relationships are shaped where diverse memories and values intersect, sometimes clashing, sometimes reconciling. For us, the challenge is not to overcome differences but to learn how to live with them.

Our works bring together sharp, fragile glass with soft, pliable materials, along with light, sound, and vibration. These contrasts embody the duality of division and connection, expanding into habitable zones—spaces where diverse beings can coexist and renegotiate their relationships.
